Despite ranking only the 5th largest network in the US, Alltel Wireless is the largest among regional carriers, with 12.2 million subscribers in 35 states. Update: Alltel Wireless has been acquired by Verizon Wireless.

The Alltel network runs on CDMA, 1xRTT, and EV-DO systems. It offers 3G and video streaming capability, although it has yet to feature a music download service.

Alltel Coverage Review

Alltel runs on native CDMA coverage, with its headquarters in Little Rock, Arkansas. Its network primarily serves the Soutwest, Midwest and Southeastern parts of the country. In terms of international roaming, it taps onto allied coverage provided by Verizon Wireless and the Sprint network.

It runs on a CDMA network, and offers a decent array of cellphones phones, smart phones and push-to-talk devices. Most Alltel phones feature EV-DO and push-to-talk compatibility.

Alltel also features data and entertainment packages that offer subscribers a variet of multimedia applications, including GPS, video, PC-to-Phone music sharing and XM Satellite radio.
