AT&T is the second biggest wireless carrier in the United States after Verizon Wireless, with over 73 million subscribers. AT&T was called Cingular Wireless upon its inception in 2001, but changed it’s name to the current in 2007, to reflect its parent company.

Today, AT&T Wirelss offers the most expansive selection of cell phones and smart phones, that correlate with its widespread network.

AT&T runs on a GSM network, which is still the most popular network category to date. AT&T now also supports high-speed data transfers via its EDGE feature. 3G (Third Generation) is now also offered in some coverage areas.

The AT&T networks most notable selling features include their marketing claim of “fewest dropped calls” and their rollover minutes. The latter is very popular among subscribers because very few providers offer rollovers, that is, unused minutes that are carried over month to month.
